Judy von Glahn Rubin, 87, of Alva, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013. She was born May 17, 1925, in Germany. She was of the Lutheran faith.

She is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Dr. Burton Rubin of Alva; four children, Patricia (Robert) Rayon of Miami Springs, Audrey (Keith) Milton of Punta Gorda, Sandy (Robert) Baldi of Fort Myers Beach, Jeffrey (Cristina) Milton of Miami and Suzy Joiner of Alva, future daughter in-law; as well as 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Russell Rubin, in 2012.

She is described by her children as a beautiful woman inside and outside. The ultimate multi-tasker, she raised 5 children along with achieving a bachelor of science in nursing and a master of science in Nursing Vocational Technical Education. She worked in the health profession for over 50 years.

She was a dedicated civil servant. She volunteered thousands of hours within several hospitals. She was instrumental in the opening of the Fort Myers Community Hospital Operating/Recovery Room in the 1970s. She pursued her entrepreneurial spirit and opened Photo King, a successful photography studio and film processing operation. Several family members joined forces with her.

She embraced numerous interests. She was a gourmet cook; cherished animals, especially her German shepherds; loved the water; and enjoyed Florida cruising her convertible. From the Swiss Alps to the bazaars of Morocco, she was a seasoned world traveler. She was a sports enthusiast, competing as a hurdler and playing tennis. With her husband, Burt, she designed and decorated several homes.

She was a woman of truth, substance, honor and integrity. A motivating force, she encouraged others to achieve their best. She was a great friend and confident. This gentle soul was respected by all who were fortunate to be in her company. Despite her hectic schedule, she always put family first. Her essence is weaved in her entire loving family.
