Gators rout Raiders 60-29

Kaleb Darrett, who had missed several games due to disciplinary reasons, returned to the floor for Island Coast with a vengeance Friday night.

Darrett entered the lineup in the second quarter and proceeded to score 27 of his game-high 29 points in the second and third quarters as the Gators blew away Riverdale 60-29 in a District 6A-13 matchup.

"We'll be back to full strength next week," said Gators coach Greg Coleman. "We have a big week in the district next week."

The Gators outscored the Raiders 42-16 in the middle two periods to claim an insurmountable lead.

Darrett finished with a double-double by adding 10 steals. Jordan Lugo added a double-double of his own with 11 rebounds and 16 points.

The win guarantees the Gators (11-8, 2-0 district) one of the top three seeds for the district tournament that starts Jan. 21. The Gators travel to South Fort Myers on Tuesday.

Mariner 51, Lemon Bay 50: Rick Moore's three-point basket from the corner with one second on the clock lifted Mariner to a District 5A-13 victory Friday night.

Moore finished with a game-high 18 points backed by Rodney Hunter with 14 points.

The Tritons (10-7) host Cypress Lake on Tuesday.

South Fort Myers 88, Ida Baker 42: Ida Baker went down almost without a fight Friday night at South Fort Myers.

The Wolfpack raced to a 41-30 halftime lead, then blew the Bulldogs away with a 28-5 run in the third quarter en route to a lopsided victory.

Nick Benvie was the only Bulldog to hit double digits with 11 points.

The Bulldogs (1-15) travel to Fort Myers on Tuesday.

The Vikings were able to hold off the Tigers, who made a second-half surge only to succumb by six points.

The Vikings (10-6) face Martin County Saturday at Fort Myers in the Southwest Florida-Florida Challenge.

Palmetto Ridge 49, Cape Coral 40: Cape Coral couldn't keep up with Palmetto Ridge Friday night, suffering a nine-point setback.

"We were close in the fourth quarter again," said Seahawks coach Tom Kenna, "but we could not get over the hump. The other team makes plays down the stretch and we haven't."

Chase Galuzny led the Seahawks with 19 points and David Flynn added seven. The Seahawks (8-11) host Lemon Bay on Tuesday.
