Palmetto-Pine Country Club members help toy drive

December 26, 2012
Special to THE BREEZE (news@breezenewspapers.com) , Cape Coral Daily Breeze

After a recent weekly round of golf, the Palmetto-Pine Country Club's ladies' group "Chicks with Sticks" were discussing their annual gift exchange for the holidays. The idea of not exchanging gifts, but to look for a charity to support, was mentioned. Charlotte Qua recalled an article she read, written by Breeze newspaper staff writer Tiffany Repecki, about the "Fill the Boat" toy drive that the Cape Coral Police Department held recently in conjunction with the U.S. Coast Guard.

Wendy Schroder contacted Susan Piney of the Cape Coral Police Department and although the drive had ended, Piney said there is always a need for gifts and the CCPD would be happy to accept any additional donations. The idea snowballed and the Chicks organized a one-week toy drive to include all members of Palmetto-Pine.

A plan was established and the next day collection boxes were placed in the Pro Shop and Club House.

Six days later a wonderful assortment of toys and gifts for older children were given to Master Corp. Kelvin Thompkins of the Cape Coral Police Department.
