Moore leads Tritons’ win

Still struggling with parts of their game and consistency, the Mariner Tritons jumped out in front in the first quarter and held on to beat Cypress Lake 52-33 in a District 5A-13 matchup Friday night.

Rick Moore topped a trio of Tritons in double figures with 16 points. Cailin Nash added 14 and Jaylen Mitchell 11.

"They did a good job of being aggressive against us," said Tritons coach James Harris. "We've just got to get better and do better."

It doesn't get any easier for the Tritons (4-1, 2-0 district) who play at Community School of Naples Saturday night.

Dunbar 71, Island Coast 59: Dunbar pulled away in the second half to pin defeat on Island Coast Friday night. It's the third straight loss for the Gators.

Angel Inchausti led the Gators with 18 points with Jordan Lugo and Kaleb Darrett each adding 12 points.

Joe Williams poured in 25 points to lead Dunbar.

The Gators (3-3) play at Lehigh on Monday.

East Lee County 90, Ida Baker 57: Seth Woods pitched in a game-high 29 points, but he got little help from his teammates as Ida Baker lost at East Lee County Friday night.

The Jaguars opened a huge 32-13 first-quarter lead and never looked back, outscoring the Bulldogs in each quarter to the end.

"We did not play defense well or crash the boards for rebounds," said Bulldogs coach Jay Sanderson.

The Bulldogs play at Dunbar Tuesday night.

Cape Coral 50, Lemon Bay 47: Cape Coral jumped out to a 30-12 halftime lead, but had to withstand a furious second-half comeback bid to defeat District 5A-13 rival Lemon Bay Friday night.

Andrew Taylor led the Seahawks with 15 points with David Flynn adding 12. Chase Galuzny contributed eight points and five rebounds to the cause.

The Seahawks (2-4, 2-0 district) play another district rival at Mariner Tuesday night.

Boys Soccer

Cape Coral 3, Lemon Bay 2: In a key District 3A-11 match Friday night, Cape Coral came from behind with two goals in the second half to top Lemon Bay.

Camillo Avendano, Juan Cano and Jairo Alpire scored the Seahawks goals. Cano's, assisted by Oscar Camacho, tied the game with 13 minutes remaining. Alpire's goal was the game-winner with four minutes remaining off an assist by Cano.

Goalkeeper Alex Collazo made nine saves to preserve the win.

The Seahawks (9-1-1, 4-0 district) travel to district rival Mariner on Tuesday.

Mariner 0, South Fort Myers 0 (tie): Though Mariner controlled the offensive zone most of the second half, the Tritons could not find the net and settled for a tie at South Fort Myers.

It is the third tie of the season for the Tritons (6-2-3, 2-0-2 district), who host Cape Coral Tuesday night in another District 3A-11 matchup.

Tritons goalkeeper Alex Trujillo made six saves.

Ida Baker 3, Fort Myers 1: It takes a solid effort to conquer the storied Fort Myers program and that's what Ida Baker gave Friday night in a District 4A-12 win over the Green Wave.

"We played our best game so far," said Bulldogs coach Scott Wills. "I am so proud of the guys because we have had a rough go the last couple of games.

Freshman Brandon Taylor, Oscar Trujillo and Filander Barahona found the net for the Bulldogs, who led 3-0 in the second half. The Wave scored their goal with about four minutes remaining.

The Bulldogs (3-3-1 play at East Lee County Monday night.
