Robert Louis Oates, 84, a permanent resident of Cape Coral since June but a snowbird for many years, formerly of Benton Township, Mich., passed away, Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, in Cape Coral. He was born June 2, 1928, in Nortonville, Ky., to Clifton J. Oates Sr. and Eunice Oates, now deceased.
He attended Faith Presbyterian Church in Cape Coral and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, St. Joseph, Mich. He was the long-time owner of Color Carpets in Tinley Park, Ill., and also previously served as bank director at the former Bremen State Bank, Tinley Park, Ill.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 62 years, Shirley Oates of Cape Coral; three children, Vickie (Dr. Col. (Ret.) USAF Paul) Christianson of Cape Coral, Beth (Gary) Stetins of Orland Park, Ill., and Jim (Laura) Oates of Peotone, Ill; as well as four grandchildren, Tara Christianson, Jon DeWalt, Jared Oates and Jana Oates.

Mr. Oates was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Evans, and a brother, Clifton Oates Jr.
