FORT MYERS - FGCU men's basketball coach Andy Enfield announced the second member of its 2013-14 class on Tuesday, signing Logan Hovey to a National Letter of Intent in the early signing period.
Hovey, a highly-skilled 6-foot-6 small forward, is a rising senior at Paul J. Hagerty High School where he led the Huskies to a 26-8 record and a trip to the Florida Class 8A Championship game last season. Hovey joins 6-foot-7 forward Jordan Neff (Kennesaw, Ga./North Cobb HS) to make up FGCU's two-member class to this point.
"Logan has a very versatile skill set and can play multiple positions at the collegiate level," coach Enfield said. "His high basketball IQ, passing, and scoring abilities will enable him to contribute to our team immediately. Logan has been well coached and will walk in the door college ready. "
Hovey averaged 14.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game en route to the Florida Class 8A Championship appearance as a junior in 2011-12. He posted nine points and nine rebounds in the championship game and reached double figures in Hagerty's win over perennial powerhouse and nationally-renown Montverde Academy.
FGCU is off to a 2-2 start in its second season under Enfield, taking on one of the most difficult schedules in the country. The Eagles defeated ACC foe Miami in front of a sellout Alico Arena crowd of 4,552 fans last Tuesday and have already gone on the road to No. 9 Duke and VCU, giving them three opponents that have at least received votes in the Top 25.
