To the editor:
Cape Coral's City Council Monday night found another way to save taxpayer
dollars: abolish the Planning and Zoning Commission, as they've done with
the CRA. Setting aside a unanimous vote by the Planning and Zoning
Commission this summer, the Council exhibited just how superfluous the
Planning and Zoning Commission's unanimous opinion was.
And what a stellar result the Council gave the city. Their vote allows
double canopies on Cape waterways. This particular compliance allows two
large boat covers to jut more than 30 feet out in to the waterway,
obstructing the view neighbors had the temerity to think was part of their
properties' amenities (and a reason for the higher price they paid).
Of course, the Council scored with the deregulation crowd. We're all
delighted with less government. In the Cape, it means double wides in the
waterways.
