Vikings crushed by Wave 48-7

November 3, 2012
By J.D. DeREU - Special to the Breeze , Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Fort Myers quarterback T.J. Douglas scored four touchdowns and a strong performance by the defense resulted in the Green Wave's 48-7 victory Friday night over the Bishop Verot Vikings.

The penalty-filled first half combined an aggressive Green Wave offense focused on the run and a stingy defense. Douglas returned the opening kick into Viking territory. A completion by Douglas to Devin Williams put the ball inside the Verot 10-yard line. Douglas called his own number and scored on a six-yard keeper to put the Green Wave up 7-0.

Verot (1-8, 1-5 district) turned the ball over on downs after a nice drive that featured a 30-yard pass from Quinn Farrell to D.J. Oceant-Kelly.

In the second quarter, runs by Douglas and Terrance Moore drove deep in Vikings territory. The Wave extended their lead to 14-0 on Douglas' second TD run, this time from 30 yards out. The drive showcased excellent blocking by the Green Wave's Odasson Desire.

The Green Wave (8-2, 4-2) defense shut down the Vikings' next two drives. The Wave put together a long drive with impressive runs by both JoJo and James Brunson as well as T.J. Morgan.

After a 10-yard pass by Douglas to Williams, the drive was capped by a one-yard TD run by JoJo Brunson. After a failed two-point conversation, the Wave led 20-0.

Verot's passing attack came to life after Farrell completed passes of 20 yards to Luke Labreche, two completions to Oceant-Kelly and another to Marc Krispinsky. The drive stalled on a botched third down snap and the Wave ran out the clock.

Douglas was on the receiving end of a 40-yard TD pass from sophomore backup Dylan Degroot resulting in a 27-0 third-quarter lead.

Verot launched a nice drive, but they failed to score and turned it over on downs.

Douglas tacked on his fourth TD of the game on an 84-yard run for a 34-0 lead.

Farrell connected with Oceant-Kelly on the next drive. A 20-yard completion put the ball near midfield and Oceant-Kelly scored on a 52-yard pass from Farrell for the Vikings' only score 34-7.

The Wave defense scored on a 30-yard interception return by Nick Perri. Runningback Terrance Moore added a 55-yard run to seal the victory.
