To the editor:
With the presidential election and 8 page ballot, which includes 11 amendments, I would hope the thoughtful voter will remember the importance of the local elected officials. You only need look at today's papers to see the financial mess the current Lee County Government finds themselves in. Two qualified, independent thinking and fiscally conservative men of integrity have emerged as the best candidates for the Lee County Commission, Larry Kiker for District 3 and Cecil Pendergrass for District 2. While they must live in the district they represent all voters in Lee County can vote for this office on Nov. 6.
Larry Kiker is the former mayor of Fort Myers Beach and is a long-time resident and Realtor. He has helped his city weather the economic downturn and has the ideas and the drive to help rebuild the economy through tourism and better government. Cecil Pendergrass is a retired Fort Myers police officer, a long-time resident and family man. He wants to improve Lee County government through better accountability and is looking for the value added approach for every tax dollar spent.
I have personally met these men and their families on the campaign trail. They have worked diligently to win the trust and respect of the voters and both handily won their Primary elections in August. I would urge the Democrats and independent voters of Lee County to agree with their Republican friends and neighbors; they "got it right" when they selected
Kiker and Pendergrass for the Lee County Commission seats.
It is past time to put common sense and fiscal responsibility back into Lee County government. Please vote for Larry Kiker and Cecil Pendergrass for Lee County Commissioner on Nov. 6.
