Phantom of the Opera auditions show Nov. 1
The public is invited to Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall on Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. when a group of 20 talented singers will gather to audition for the opportunity to sing the following evening with Broadway's Longest Running Phantom of the Opera. Franc D'Ambrosio, the Iron Man of the Mask, will headline The Phantom and Friends: Franc D'Ambrosio's Broadway. The concert is co-produced by the Symphonic Chorale of Southwest Florida.
D'Ambrosio will choose a Christine and a Raoul to perform the Phantom finale with him, backed by the 80 voice Chorale. Having studied with Luciano Pavarotti, D'Ambrosio has also agreed to conduct a master class for the auditioners. Audition notices went out to college and university voice professors as far away as Tampa and Miami as well as to Florida Gulf Coast University and Edison State College.
D'Ambrosio's program also includes songs from Les Mis, Sweeney Todd, and Chicago, among others, interspersed with stories about working with entertainment icons like Al Pacino, Barry Manilow, and Hal Prince. The Chorale will sing medleys by Richard Rodgers and Irving Berlin.
Audition access is at no cost. The Mann box office will remain open on Nov. 1 until 8 p.m.for those who wish to buy concert tickets at $27, $47, or $57. Tickets can also be purchased at www.bbmannpah.com

Cape Coral Art League 'Happy Hour' show
The Cape Coral Art League will host the annual juried and judged show "Happy Hour," with receiving being held Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the league building at 516 Cultural Park Blvd., Cape Coral. All members of Art Council of S.W. Florida are eligible to enter two paintings.
The Art Council is the umbrella organization of Southwest Florida and has 18 art organizations, including the Cape Coral Art League, in its fold. A prospectus is on the league's website, www.capecoralartleague.org.
A wine and cheese reception, open to the public, will be held Thursday, Nov. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the league's gallery. Cash awards will be presented at 6 pm along with a People's choice award. Winners also receive certificates at the presentation.
The public is invited to come and enjoy the show and our hospitality.
Other upcoming events are the General meeting on Monday, Nov. 5, at the League's building at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served and a demo will be given after the meeting. Anyone interested in art is welcome to attend the meeting.
The Cape Coral Art League is a non-profit organization devoted to the furthering of art education. The league has a full schedule of classes held Monday through Thursdays in all media. The league is closed on Fridays.
