Fort Myers sweeps Ida Baker out of district volleyball tournament

District 6A-13 at Fort Myers: No. 1 seed Fort Myers swept Ida Baker out of the district tournament in Tuesday's semifinal round with a straight-set defeat 25-7, 25-10, 25-18.

Devon Ramey, Ashley Vargas and Kristina Kayatta contributed three kills apiece while Tiffany Wood handed out six assists.

The Bulldogs' season concludes with a 12-14 record.

Fort Myers advances to the championship game Thursday night against Riverdale, which defeated South Fort Myers in the other semifinal match Tuesday night.

District 3A-11 at Oasis: The tournament host Sharks gave No. 1 seed Evangelical Christian a strong challenge in the semifinals Tuesday night before stumbling in a five-set tiebreaker defeat 25-10, 22-25, 21-25, 25-6, 15-7.

Nursing a 2-1 lead in games, the Sharks suddenly went cold, being outscored 40-13 down the stretch.

"I really thought we would win it," said Sharks coach James Mikolajczyk.

The Sharks' season ends at 19-8.

They were led in defeat by Marion Chlipala with 13 kills, Larra Bickelhaupt with 11 kills and two service aces, Natalie Westendorf with five kills and setter Emma Nelson with 32 assists and two aces.
