James Michael Becker Sr.

James Michael Becker Sr., 71, a Lee County resident for over 18 years, formerly of Manahawkin, N.J., died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, in Fort Myers. He was born March 23, 1941, in Philadelphia, to Gregory Becker Sr. and Stella Becker, now deceased.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Barnegat, N.J., and St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in Cape Coral. He began his career driving a truck in 1966. In 1969 he became a Teamster and drove for P. I. E. (Pacific International Express) for 23 years. He then became an owner/operator in 1992 and drove for TransStar Trucking and then Heartland Express Trucking. He and his wife owned and operated the Forked River Diner in Forked River, N.J., with the help of his children. The diner was purchased in 1984, and is now owned by his daughter.

He was a brave and hardworking man who was extremely devoted to his wife and family. He loved to travel, boating and camping. He also enjoyed spending time on his computer playing games and social networking.

Mr. Becker is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Edith Becker of North Fort Myers; three loving children, Patricia (Thomas) Tansley of Barnegat, N.J., Nancy (Robert) Moody of Lanoka Harbor, N.J., and Carol (David) Woelke of Cape Coral; a sister, Carolyn Maltz of Levittown, Pa.; as well as six grandchildren, Amy Simmons, Donald Woelke III, James Woelke, Robert Woelke, Victoria Logan and Peri Becker; and one great-granddaughter, Lily Simmons.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Becker Jr. in 2010. He was also preceded by two brothers, Gregory Becker Jr. and John Becker.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 19, at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 1922 S.W. 20th Ave., Cape Coral, with Father John Deary officiating. Visitation was held from Thursday, Oct. 18, at Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1056 N.E. 7th Terrace, Cape Coral.
