It was senior night and Fort Myers Green Wave quarterback T.J. Douglas made sure his team would make it a night of celebration.
Douglas ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw a 60-yard TD pass for good measure to put away North Fort Myers 41-7 Friday night.
North hung on through the first quarter as both teams made plenty of mistakes with fumbles and costly penalties.
It remained scoreless until the Green Wave got rolling in the second quarter. Big plays dominated the remainder of the half. First, sophomore tailback Terrance Moore broke through the middle and cut down the right sideline for a 61-yard TD run.
On the ensuing drive, North quarterback Brandon Makar mishandled the exchange in the backfield on the first of four lost fumbles and the ball went over to the Green Wave. Two penalties seemed to have halted the Wave, but on second down Douglas placed a perfect pass to a streaking Devin Williams on the sidelines. The senior wide receiver ran it the rest of the way for a 60-yard touchdown. Junior Klinger De Almeida ran for a successful two-point conversion and Fort Myers was up 14-0.
Following Connor Black's punt, the Wave struck again. Having had two long scores called back on penalties, sophomore JoJo Brunson raced to the outside for a TD and a 21-0 lead.
Fort Myers forced a punt. Following an eight-yard sack, Douglas made the play of the game. Running the option , he elected to keep the ball and two quick cuts later he was pulling away from for an electrifying 90-yard TD run. The Wave went into halftime with a commanding 28-0 lead.
