GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — A northeast Florida man has been charged with aggravated manslaughter after authorities say his infant son died of severe shaking.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office reports that 19-year-old Jesse Wayne Helms was arrested Monday.

Authorities say 11-month-old Jacoby Logan Helms died last Wednesday of multiple injuries to his brain, blunt trauma to his abdomen and had severe hemorrhaging in his right eye that nearly detached his retina.

The Florida Times-Union ( ) reports that doctors who examined the baby after he was taken to a nearby hospital found he did not have any brain activity. An arrest report says all the injuries occurred at the same time.
