Donald Elliott Shay, 68, of Cape Coral died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Hope Hospice, Cape Coral. He was born on June 6, 1944, in Canandaigua, N.Y., the youngest of four sons of David A. and Frances L. (Coons) Shay.
A resident of Cape Coral for the past three years, he previously lived in the Finger Lakes region of New York state. He was self employed as an installer and mostly as a finisher of dry wall in the construction industry. He was a member of the Moose.
He was the husband of Alice Shay, now deceased, and is survived by his children with his former wife, Angie Shay; Theresa Dahlberg of Cape Coral and Patricia Demuth of Cape Coral; his step-sons, Tony "Buddy" (Maria) Gray of New York, David (Lisa) Gray of New York, Kenneth (Cheryl) Gray of New York, Dale (Stacey) Gray of New York, Randy (Andrea) Goodwin of North Carolina and Joseph (Ladonna) Goodwin of New York; grandchildren, including Cody Dahlberg and Amanda Demuth; great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Duane (Mary) Shay of New York and Daniel (Joyce) Shay of Texas.

He was predeceased by his wife, parents and a brother.
Funeral services will be held privately by the family.
