Ga. mom looking to send son with stranger arrested

June 17, 2014

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — Police say a suburban Atlanta woman accused of arranging for her son to travel with a stranger she found on Craigslist has been arrested.

Cobb County police spokesman Dana Pierce says a Gainesville, Georgia man posted an ad late last week offering to split the cost of driving to the Sarasota, Florida area.

Pierce says Shelia Sherrie Joyner of Marietta responded, saying she was looking to send her 9-year-old son to visit his grandmother.

Pierce says the man called police, who launched a sting operation Friday. Pierce says Joyner sent her baby sitter and son to the designated drop-off point, where they were met by police.

According to Cobb County jail records, Joyner's charged with contributing to the deprivation of a minor. It's unclear if she has an attorney.
