Rose Ann Mary McCartin, 75, of Cape Coral passed from this life Thursday Aug. 30, 2012, at Lee Memorial's Cape Coral Hospital.
Born in Scranton, Pa., in 1936 to William and Veronica Blenkin, she attended the Little Flower School for Girls in Philadelphia. She married Maj. John Michael McCartin, USA (ret.) in 1958. A career Army wife and mother, she and family were among the first 1,000 families to settle in Cape Coral in 1972 after crisscrossing the United States at a variety of duty stations. In addition to raising four sons, she was a former city of Cape Coral employee, and volunteered at every opportunity to support youth soccer and baseball in Cape Coral.
In recent years, she was a devoted member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Elks Lodge, and the Moose Lodge.
Mrs. McCartin was preceded in death by her husband, John (1985), and her son, Christopher (Peggy) McCartin (2008).
Survivors include her three sons, LCDR Michael (Jennifer) McCartin, USN (ret.) of Warrenton, Va., Patrick (Francine) McCartin of Cape Coral and CDR Andrew (Valerie) McCartin USN (ret.) of Orange Park, Fla.; her sister, Mary Ellen (Al) Gates of Trevose, Pa.; and five grandsons, Michael, Kyle, Connor, Tyler and Shane. No services are immediately planned. A celebration of life is planned in the near future and details will be made available.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages a charitable donation in her memory be made to either the Veterans of Foreign Wars or the Disabled American Veterans organizations.
