Mariner boys golf team wins opener against Island Coast

Mariner 175, Island Coast 241: Mariner won its season opening match Tuesday over Island Coast at Coral Oaks.

The Tritons were led by Tanner VanDmark with a medalist round of 41 backed by Jordan Kenney, Cody Carroll and John Inkster with scores of 46 or under.

Riley Zavorsky and David O'Day led the Gators with matching 57s.

The Tritons host Lehigh Thursday at Coral Oaks.

Island Coast 241 - Riley Zavorsky 57, David O'Day 57, Nick Murray 61, Brenen Wooten 66.


Ida Baker 161, Estero 167: Ida Baker ran its record to 3-0 with its win over Estero at the San Carlos Golf Club.

The Bulldogs were led by medalist Anthony Montoya with a 38. Anthony Myers and Daichai Dougherty both carded 39s and Ross Lally had a 45.

Michael Adams had a 39 to lead Estero

The Bulldogs return to action today taking on Cape High and Oasis at Palmetto Pine.

Mariner 17, Island Coast 7: Mariner won its season opener over Island Coast Tuesday at Coral Lanes.

Taking top honors on the day were the Tritons' Derek Stevens with a high game of 247 and Quinn Mossey with a 232.

Tim Sipper led Island Coast with a 213.

Mariner - Derek Stevens 247, Quinn Mossey 232, James Stafford 180, Alex Trujillo 150, Riley Burwell 134.

Ida Baker's volleyball team lost its match at Gulf Coast Tuesday evening, 6-25, 11-25 and 10-25. With the loss the Bulldogs fall to 1-2 on the year.

Leading the Bulldogs on the night were Ali Nicoly and Ashley Vargas with two kills each and Brittney Benvie with four assists.

The team returns to action today at Dunbar. Game time is 7 p.m.


Cape High lost a tough volleyball match at North Fort Myers Tuesday night, falling 25-20, 23-25, 25-15, 18-25 and 7-15. With the loss the Seahawks are now 1-2 on the young season. The Red Knights up their season mark with 3-0 with the victory.

Kristi Maselter led the 'Hawks with 21 kills, three aces and five blocks. Jessica Magee had 10 kills and six aces and Katie Upton pitched in with 17 assists and three aces.

The Knights, who had 60 digs as a team, were led by Erica Eden who had 30 assists and Amanda Anzalone with 10 kills and 21 digs.

The Seahawks return to action Thursday with a home match against Mariner High. North travels to Lemon Bay Thursday.


Mariner's volleyball team dropped its first match of the year, falling at Riverdale, 6-25, 15-25 and 11-25. The Tritons are now 2-1 on the year.

Alia Mann and Michelle Huey had two kills each to help lead the Tritons on the night, while Summer Greenwell contributed five assists and Heather Gillions had two aces.

Mariner returns to action Thursday at Cape Coral.


Oasis claimed its first victory of the season Tuesday evening, downing host Community School of Naples, 25-15, 27-25, 25-27 and 25-20.

Leading the way for Oasis were Marion Chlipala with 16 kills, Alexis Robbins with 23 digs and Larra Vickelhaupt with 10 kills and six aces.

Oasis will be seeking its second victory in four matches Thursday when it hosts Moore Haven.
