PORT CHARLOTTE - Andy Leer drove in Angel Morales three times to help the Miracle win their season finale against the Charlotte Stone Crabs 6-3 on Sunday at Charlotte Sports Park.
The Miracle jumped out to a 3-0 lead with lone runs in the first, second and fourth. Kyle Knudson delivered an RBI double in the first. In the second, Angel Morales led off with a single, stole second, advanced the third on a bunt and scored on a single by Leer.
The Miracle went up 3-0 in the third on another RBI single by Leer that brought home Morales.
The Stone Crabs came roaring back in the fifth against Matt Summers. Hector Guevara put them on the board with a two-out RBI single, then Cody Rogers tied the game with a two-run triple. Summers settled down and stranded Rogers at third by striking out Todd Glaesmann.
The Miracle broke the tie in the sixth. Morales drew a leadoff walk, stole second and moved to third when catch Luke Bailey's throw got away into center field. Once again, Leer drove Morales in, this time with a sac-fly to make it 4-3.
Leer collected his fourth RBI of the night on another sac-fly in the ninth. Daniel Santana added another insurance run in the frame with a solo home run.
A.J. Achter pitched the final three innings without allowing a base runner to close out the game. Achter earned his sixth save, tying him with Michael Tonkin for the team lead.
Summers got the win. He gave up three runs in three innings. Miracle starter Pat Dean struck out four and allowed just one hit in three innings.
Fort Myers finishes the season with a 60-75 overall record. The Miracle were 32-36 in the second half.
