CAPE CORAL - Marco Island Academy's historic first football game was far from what the Manta Rays had hoped for, losing to the Oasis Sharks 52-0 at Storms Complex Friday night.
Both schools were making their first appearance as an 11-man program. Oasis played six-man football last season.
The Sharks' Will Jynella carried the ball seven times for 171 yards and four touchdowns in the first quarter. Joseph Pascale rushed eight times for 149 yards and a touchdown.
Marco Island had just five first downs in the game and 74 total yards, 70 on the ground. The Manta Rays completed one pass on eight tries. Oasis had no passing yards.
The Sharks built a 36-0 lead after one quarter and were ahead 52-0 at halftime.
Oasis coach Jeff Brady used a number of substitutes in the second half, and the game went to running clock with Marco down by more than 35 points.
Marco had a few bright spots, not giving up any points in the second half.
Oasis visits St. John Neumann next Friday.
