One night after overcoming a four-run deficit to beat Bradenton, the Fort Myers Miracle came back from a 5-0 deficit Thursday night to defeat the Charlotte Stone Crabs 8-7 in 10 innings.
Kyle Knudson lined a bases-loaded single into right field with two outs to plate Daniel Oritz and break a 7-7 tie in the 10th for the walk-off win. Ortiz reached on a single, took second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
Nelvin Fuentes pitched four innings of scoreless relief to get the win and improve to 4-0 in a Miracle uniform.
Alex Koronis took the loss for the Stone Crabs.
The Stone Crabs roughed up Miracle starter Madison Boer for five runs on five hits in the first inning, which Phil Wunderlich capped off with a two-run homer.
However, the Miracle struck back with four in the bottom of the first against Enny Romero. Steve Liddle roped a two-run double with the bases loaded to put Fort Myers on the board. Kyle Knudson plated a run on a ground ball, and Jhon Goncalves walked with the bases loaded to make it 5-4.
A sac-fly by Luke Bailey extended the Stone Crabs' lead to 6-4 in the fourth, but Danny Rams tied the game for the Miracle with a two-run homer in the fifth.
Wunderlich once again tagged Boer to put the Stone Crabs back on top in the sixth. With runners a second and third, he doubled high off the wall in right to score Steve Tinoco, but the relay throw from Goncalves to Daniel Santana to Knudson beat Cody Rogers home to keep the game at 7-6.
Santana led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run off George Jensen to tie the game 7-7.
The Miracle (59-73, 31-34) and Stone Crabs (53-78, 24-40) continue their season-ending four-game series Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Hammond Stadium.
