Cape Coral High's defensive front overwhelmed Palmetto Ridge, racking up seven sacks as the Seahawks topped host Palmetto Ridge 21-14 in Friday's preseason football game.
"That's a veteran line," Cape coach Larry Gary said. "We expect that. That's no secret that the front six all played together last year and that is going to be the key at the line of scrimmage and controlling the ball. If we can do that we'll be a pretty good team."
Despite being overmatched on the line, Palmetto Ridge had a shot right up until the end after the Bears pulled within a touchdown with less than two minutes to play on a 32-yard touchdown pass from Sean Hatch to receiver Javion Morgan, but the Bears were unable to recover the onside kick with 1:10 left in the game.
Strong-armed Cape QB Trey Daniels repeatedly burned Palmetto's secondary while scrambling, including a 27-yard strike to Gaymon that extended their lead to 15-0 in the second.
The Seahawks struck again to open the fourth. Daniels led a 64-yard drive capped by a 17-yard TD pass to Rasheen Bailey.
The Seahawks make their regular season debut next Friday at home against North Fort Myers.
