The St. Lucie Mets snapped the three-game winning streak of the Fort Myers Miracle by edging the Miracle 2-1 Friday night at Hammond Stadium.
Mets starter Logan Verrett was impressive over 6 1/3 innings. He allowed one run and four hits while striking out four. He earned his first win in the Florida State League.
Adrian Rosario issued just one walk in 1 2/3 innings in relief and Taylor Whitenton struck out two in a perfect ninth to close out the game.
The Mets scored both of their runs in the first inning against Cole Nelson. Alonzo Harris led off the game by drawing a walk and T.J. Rivera drove him in with a line triple to right. Daniel Muno then singled to center to bring home Rivera for a 2-0 lead.
The Miracle couldn't do much against Verrett, who retired 10 in row after giving up an infield single to Lance Ray in the first inning. The Miracle scratched for their only run in the fifth. Daniel Ortiz led off with a single and scored on a double to deep left-center by Anderson Hidalgo. Hidalgo was thrown out at third trying to stretch the double into a triple.
The Miracle placed runners at second in the seventh and eighth innings but could not get the runners home against Rosario.
The Miracle (51-65, 23-26) and Mets (73-43, 24-24) continue their three-game series at 6:05 p.m. Saturday with postgame fireworks.
