The Cape Coral Senior all-star softball team bounded back from a disappointing debut in the Senior World Series in Sussex, Del., to finish strong.
After losing its first two games to fall out of contention for the championship, Cape reeled off three straight wins to claim fifth place overall in the same tournament in which they lost in the semifinal round a year ago.
Cape (3-2) defeated West Regional representative Butte, Mont., 8-3 Friday night to claim fifth place.
Katie Grubb and Sarah Waitekus contributed two hits apiece for Cape, which struck for four runs in the first inning to take command. Waitekus had an RBI single in the opening rally.
Deniece Bent drove in a run in the second inning while Becca Troast added a sac-fly RBI in the third. Cape added two runs in the sixth inning to seal the win.
Maddy Peres started on the mound and pitched four innings with six strikeouts to earn the win. Alyssa Langdale closed it out with four strikeouts.
