DAYTONA - The Daytona Cubs completed a four-game sweep of the Fort Myers Miracle Thursday night with an 8-2 win.
The Cubs tallied 11 hits in the game, including three home runs off Miracle starter Pat Dean, to continue an offensive trend. In the four game series, Daytona totaled 47 hits and 23 runs.
Freshly added to the Cubs' roster after being acquired in the Ryan Dempster trade, third baseman Christian Villanueva hit two solo homers. Roni Torreyes added a two-run homer and Daytona held a 4-1 lead after three innings.
Fort Myers cut the lead to 4-2 in the top of the fifth when Josmil Pinto jacked his 10th home run of the season over the left field fence off Daytona reliever Matt Searle. Pinto joins Lance Ray as the only other member of the roster with double-digit homers.
Daytona added two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to pull away to the 8-2 win. Dean (6-8) was the losing pitcher after giving up six runs in five innings and Searle (5-3) picked up the win for the Cubs.
The Miracle (47-62, 19-23) continue a seven-game road trip with the first of a three-game series Friday with the St. Lucie Mets.
