Michael Ernst Huhndorf, 48, a resident of Cape Coral, for the past 15 years, died Thursday, July 19, 2012 in Cape Coral. He was born Dec. 17, 1963, in Bedford, Pa. He previously lived in Germany, New Jersey and Middletown, Calif.

He earned his associates degree from Edison College. He also attended the Himalayan Institute, worked on Michael Andretti's Racing Team and was an amateur BMX racer turning professional for a year. He also worked at Harbin Hot Springs in California, was a tutor for the Literacy Foundation and volunteered at Gulf Coast Humane Society.

He is survived by his mother, Mary K. Huhndorf of Cape Coral; his father, Peter Huhndorf of Morristown, N.J.; a sister, Tina Huhndorf of Cape Coral; his uncles and aunts, Pat and Ani Logue of Bay Minette, Ala., and David and Ann Harbaugh of Bedford, Pa.; a nephew, Neil Higby of Montclair, N.J.; as well as his good friend, Craig Thompson.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, July 28, at Hope Hospice, 2430 Diplomat Parkway, E., Cape Coral.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Michael's favorite charities: The Gulf Coast Humane Society, 2010 Arcadia St., Fort Myers, FL 33916, or NAMI of Lee County, P.O. Box 50816, Fort Myers, FL 33994.
