Riverchase Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery to offer skin cancer screenings

Riverchase Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, located at 413 Del Prado Blvd., S., Suite 101, in Cape Coral, will be offering free confidential skin cancer screenings, Wednesday, July 25, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Riverchase will be providing the screenings periodically throughout the year for new patients only, and people who want a screening must have an appointment.

Mane Event opens

in downtown Cape

The Mane Event, a hair salon, is now open at 1210 Lafayette St., in downtown Cape Coral. The business, formerly known as Mirror Mirror, moves to the new location with the same stylists. Former clients are urged to call Carmie and Lily at the new salon.

Maine Event is open Monday by appointment, Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fafco Solar to host Learn About Solar Energy event

Fafco Solar of Southwest Florida, which has provided renewable energy solutions to its customers for over 35 years and remains current with all solar power technologies, will hold a Learn About solar Energy event, Aug. 9, at Larson Education Center, 1400 Colonial Blvd., #44, Fort Myers.

From 6-8 p.m. an informative presentation on the various kinds of solar energy that are popular in Southwest Florida will be given.

Interactive and hands-on-displays of the latest and various solar panels, along with other solar technologies, will be available for examination.

'Haircuts for Autism'

benefit July 28

Indulgence Salon in Fort Myers is holding "Haircuts for Autism" to benefit Eden Autism Services Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The salon is located in the Daniels Crossing Shopping Plaza at 6900 Daniels Parkway, Suite 33, in Fort Myers.

Stylists will offer haircuts for donations that will raise funds for Eden's school in Fort Myers. The salon will also be holding a raffle with gift baskets and gift certificates from local businesses.

Donations of raffle items from businesses are being accepted.

Appointments are not necessary and cash, check and credit card donations will be accepted.

The Lee Building Industry Association is now accepting entries for the 2012 BIA Industry Awards, featuring both the Pinnacle and Summit Awards! Applicable categories include residential design, commercial projects, advertising and marketing, and industry achievement. Eligible construction, design, marketing and/or implementation projects must have been created/produced/run/completed between August 2011-August 2012. Achievement Awards are for an individual or company's proven achievement in 2011 only. Entries must be received at the Lee BIA office no later than 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24, 2012.

Gowdy featured at Gavin's 25th anniversary event

Have you ever seen a painting completed to a musical tune in 10 minutes? John Gowdy, renowned artist, will demonstrate this skill Tuesday, July 31, from 4-6 p.m. at Gavin's Ace Hardware, 16025 San Carlos Blvd., Fort Myers. The event is part of the hardware store's 25th anniversary celebration of doing business in the Fort Myers.

The public is invited to the free event to watch the artist and master sand sculptor as he creates his paintings. He is a performance artist and does his art work before an audience, using a spinning canvas, with music in the background.
