You can beat the heat by visiting the Shell Factory Fun Park this summer. There are bumper boats with water guns, shaded spots on the miniature golf course and the popular "Water Wars" where you can shoot water balloons at friends and family.
You can also sit in the misted Swamp Bar that sits in the middle of the attractions and even bring your dog and sit in the outside bar called Dogbones, right behind the Fun Park.
There's also the incredibly popular McShell & Company Mining Rig that is also part of the park.
The visiting Helfrich family enjoyed the bumper boats at the Shell Factory Fun Park in North Fort Myers.
Jason Barrett is the owner/operator of the Shell Factory Fun Park.
"The Fun Park features 18-hole miniature golf, we have Water Wars where you launch water balloons at each other, we have our Mining Rig where kids and their families mine for real gem stones and real fossils.
"We also have the paddle boats where you get free food to feed the ducks, turtles and geese," he said.
That wildlife roams freely around the Fun Park and the Shell Factory complex, both on land and in the waters.
Bumper boats are popular, he said.
"We have the largest bumper boat pond in Southwest Florida," Barrett said. "It is also the wettest in Southwest Florida, with over a dozen waterfalls. We always encourage people to bring a towel with them."
Walker, Ashley, Michelle and Kelly Helfrich particularly enjoyed spraying each other with the water guns.
"We're from Dixon, Illinois and we've been coming here to the Shell Factory Fun Park for the last five years," said mom Laura Helfrich.
"We love it," said Cape Coral mother Alycia Wiese of the Fun Park, who came for a day of fun.
You can also see families get competitive at Water Wars.
"The water balloons are a perfect way to settle a score between friends or family members," Barrett said.
"We also have airbrush tattoos for the kids that last three to five days. And snow cones are always $1."
Barrett plans to keep adding more attractions within the Fun Park.
"We have sand art coming soon, where children can do sand sculptures with colored sand and birthday party packages coming soon."
He said they are also working on "Party Island," details to be announced. Future goals are also to put in kiddie rides.
"Join our Facebook page, we're always adding new attractions."
That's under the Shell Factory Facebook page; it covers the Nature Park and Fun Park.
"I believe my pricing is well below others in Southwest Florida, affordable family fun," Barrett added.
He also said to mention if you read this story in either The North Fort Myers Neighbor or the Cape Coral Breeze you will get a free round of miniature golf for a family up to five.
- Miniature Golf: $3 per person
- Bumper Boats: $5 per person
- Paddle Boat (includes fish food): $5
- Water War Balloons: $5 for 20 water bombs
Hours are Tuesday through Sunday 10 a.m and close at 6 p.m. (The entire Shell Factory complex is closed Mondays.
"But we will stay open later if business requires," Barrett said.
