Edward A. Straney, 74, of Cape Coral died Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Hope Hospice. He was born Aug. 23, 1937, in New York City to Edward and Esther Straney. He served his country honorably with the U.S. Army. He married Anita DeMayo in 1965. He was raised in Howard Beach, N.Y., then lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Ft. Lauderdale, prior to moving to Cape Coral in 1979.
He retired from Eastern Airlines after 35 years of service and later managed the Light House Resort and Club on Sanibel. He enjoyed life to the fullest, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Straney will be remembered as a loving, caring man who will be missed by many.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Anita; three children, Erin Straney of Fort Myers, Eddy Straney of Cape Coral and Elena (Andy) Straney-Spiegel of Fort Myers; two sisters, Helen Jakubowski of Arlington, Va., and Kay Hallahan of Queens, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. Taylor Floethe, Edward Straney, Nathan and Jacob Spiegel.
A memorial service will be held at a later time.
