Robert F. Kupina, 86, of North Fort Myers, formerly of 1010 Lincoln Blvd., Manitowoc, Wis., died Monday, June 25, 2012.
He was born June 23, 1926, in Chicago, the son of Frank and Rose (Pintur) Kupina. He attended schools in Chicago. He served in the United States Army Cavalry at Fort Riley, Kan., and was stationed overseas in the Philippines. He played Minor League Baseball with the Cubs, Saints, Palatka Azaleas and Chickasha Chiefs. He was a fireman at Forest View, Ill., until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the Illinois Professional Firefighters Association, Manitowoc Elks Lodge #687 and Lakeshore Curling Club.
On July 17, 1976, he married Mary Jane (Vogel) Schwark in Illinois.
Survivors include his wife, three children, Robert K. (Nancy) Kupina of Ann Arbor, Mich., Kathy Dwyer and Paulette (Al) Geiersback of Willowbrook, Ill.; two step-children, Deborah (Louis) Lodel of Kiel, Wis., and William Schwark of Manitowoc, Wis,; five grandchildren, Mason, Addison and Aiden Kupina of Ann Arbor, Mich.. Louis J. Lodel III of Eagan, Minn., and Margrett Sampe of Madison, Wis.
A nemorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 5, at Hope Hospice Chapel, Cape Coral. Internment will follow later at the Wisconsin Veterans Cemetary, King Wis.
