Tea Party favorite?

June 16, 2012
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

To the editor:

I would like to inform The Breeze that the Lee County Tea Party has endorsed Trey Radel for the District 19 Congressional seat.

The Tea Party movement was born due to concerns about runaway spending and fears of tax increases. Today it is about so much more, perhaps even the future of our Republic.

It is imperative that we elect conservative leaders who will uphold our Constitution and legislate so that our country remains the greatest in the world. Of the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence, only two could be considered to be politicians. The Declaration begins We the People and it was unto the people that the Founders entrusted the future of our country.

Trey Radel has emceed our annual event for the past two years. His message of conservative leadership, smaller government, limited taxation, individual liberties and personal responsibility has resonated with the thousands who have attended. His Christian values guide his principles as they will guide his leadership in Washington DC. He is a citizen who loves and wants to serve his country, the sort of leader the Founders would have embraced.

Tea Partiers share a philosophy about how our country should be run. Tea Partiers make individual decisions about supporting various candidates for various reasons.

Labeling one candidate in the District 19 Congressional race as "the Tea Party favorite" is bestowing a blanket endorsement which is not wholly accurate or warranted.
