James P. Mc-Carthy of Cape Coral and formerly of Gary, Ind., passed away peacefully Sunday, June 3, 2012, after a short illness with his wife and children by his side. He was born on Sept. 5, 1939, to Patrick J. McCarthy and Genevieve Gaynor.
He is survived by his loving wife, Daniece M. McCarthy of Cape Coral; his brother, John M. McCarthy of Merrillville, Ind.; his children, Kevin P. (Melinda) McCarthy, Maureen E. (Bryan) Fogarty, Colleen D. (Clint) Stoaks and Marianne E. (John) Griffith; grandchildren Kiersten, Kara, Donna Marie, Skylar, Caroline, Sydney and Jackson.
He was predeceased by his mother and father.

Known to most as Jim, he graduated from St. Bede Academy. He married Daniece, the love of his life, Feb. 20, 1965. They were married for 47 happy years and together and lovingly raised four children. He gave generously of his time to the local Elks where he was active in many charity functions and built quality friendships. He retired as a tax law specialist for the IRS in Washington, D.C., in 1995. He and his warm sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, June 7, at St. Andrew Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends for viewing from 5-7 p.m., at Fuller Metz Funeral Home.
