To the editor:
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend Memorial Day services locally. I did watch the Memorial services on MSNBC at the Vietnam Memorial in D.C. I was proud to be a Namvet when I watched the service, until a non vet (Obama) was announced. The keynote speaker should have been a Vietnam veteran. Obama gave a great speech, which was written by someone else. You could tell it was not a speech from the heart.
When the national anthem was sung, Biden had to remind his wife to put her right hand over her heart. Any true American knows that this is something that should be done without someone telling them to do it. Also, Obama did not sing the national anthem, but his wife did.
I was also happy to see that Vietnam veterans were recognized for their efforts to make sure that our brothers and sisters from Iraq and Afghanistan won't get the same treatment that Vietnam veterans got upon returning home.
Actions speak louder than words, and Obama needs to back up his words of support for returning veterans. I know of some returning veterans that have problems getting their disability ratings, even though they have lost limbs. There are many other problems that Obama should take care of that concern all veterans.
