On Friday, April 20, members from law enforcement agencies throughout Lee County will participate in the annual law enforcement torch run to benefit Special Olympics Florida.
The torch run starts at 8 a.m. at the Sheriff's Office headquarters, 14750 Six Mile Cypress Parkway, Fort Myers, and ends at the Big Lots parking lot at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Pondella Road in North Fort Myers. Registration begins at 7:15 a.m. and is limited to members of law enforcement and other first responders.
The Torch Run is an intra-state relay involving more than 300 city, county, state and federal agencies throughout the 67 counties in Florida. Representatives from the following agencies are expected to participate in the event: Lee County Sheriff's Office, Fort Myers Police Department, Cape Coral Police Department, Sanibel Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Lee County Port Authority Police and Lee County Parks and Recreation.
NOTE: Traffic may be slow between the hours of 8-10 a.m. along northbound U.S. 41. Traffic deputies will escort runners along the route to ensure safety and minimal disruptions.
