To the editor:
The Supreme Court in recent history seems to have taken on more of a political role. Through its decisions it has helped select a president with Gore vs. Bush. It has decided that corporations can give unlimited dollars to political candidates thus turning the country towards the big money makers where wealth gets access. It is now deciding what form of healthcare we will have.
After the Social Security Act was passed it was brought before the Supreme Court to decide if it was constitutional. The fact that people had to pay for it while they worked was an issue. Doesn't it sound similar to a provision in our new Healthcare Bill? Thank goodness the Supreme Court ruled the Social Security Act constitutional. A lot of Americans would be in bad shape without Social Security and so will many be in bad shape without health care
Maybe the Supreme Court has become too political and watching it work through television would help.
