Betty Beiriger, 91, born Nov. 19, 1920, went to be with the Lord at Hope Hospice on April 2, 2012, and her recently deceased husband of 71 years, Ralph A. (Rod) Beiriger. She had resided for three years in Cape Coral after living in Spanish Lakes Country Club Village in Fort Pierce, Fla., for 29 years, having moved to Florida from Griffith, Ind., in 1980. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rod; her mother, Lorena Bickett (nee James); her father, William Brennan; step-father, Robert Bickett; brother, Billy Brennan; sister, Hyacinth Starke; daughter, Betsy Christenson; and son-in-law, Dr. Theodore Mason.
Mrs. Beiriger is survived by her son, Lt. Col Richard A. Beiriger, US Army Ret., (Karen) of Brandon, Fla.; and daughter, Cheryl Mason (fiance Buddy Traurig) of Cape Coral; grandchildren, Stephanie (Dennis) Pawlowsk of Plant City, Fla., Jennifer (Tim) Mathew of Valparaiso, Ind., Matthew J. (Mary) Beiriger II of Oakton, Va., Tonya Sears-Brokop of Griffith, Ind., Jon Joseph of West Lafayette, Ind., Cass (Nicole) Christenson of Bethesda, Md., Heather (Tim) Bayer of Winter Park, Fla., and Kent Christenson of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; 16 great-grandchildren and many fond nieces and nephews. Born in Zanesville, Ohio, she graduated from Dyer (Ind.) High School in 1938, and became an accomplished artist, winning numerous awards, prizes and ribbons for her oil paintings. After marrying Ralph (Rod) in Griffith, Ind., on June 15, 1940, she was the administrative assistant at the Hammond (Ind.) Community Chest for many years and was an avid golfer, crafter and outstanding bridge player. She was a caring, wonderful, loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of Betty's life will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Cape Coral, at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 4.
Burial will follow the mass at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City, Fla.
