Cape Coral fishing spots already too few

To the editor:

Cape Coral Florida has more than 400 miles of canals, more than any other city in the world according to Wikipedia. That's 400 miles! I'll bet Cape Coral has less than one mile of dedicated area set aside for fishermen/women to fish from the bank. Seems like everywhere I go there is a No Fishing sign.

I moved to Cape Coral in September of 2011 thinking this would be my final move and thought this would be a fishing mecca. I retired from the navy in 1991 and have enjoyed fishing throughout Florida. I do have a small boat but am getting to be unsteady on my feet so fishing from the banks seemed like a good idea. I am shocked to see Councilman McGrail is hell bent on taking that privilege away from me and the many other fishermen/women here. Fishing has been a past-time for many folks for hundreds of years. His idea of permitting us to have a little space at his designated areas shows me he knows very little about fishing. I've been to at least one of those areas and there are lots of No Fishing signs there also.

I would have thought Cape Coral would have had lots of areas for fishing folks to be able to enjoy.
