The Florida Everblades learned Wednesday that defenseman Sebastien Piche was assigned to the team by the NHL Tampa Bay Lightning.
Piche was acquired by the Lightning in a three-team deal Tuesday. Tampa sent forward Steve Downie to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for defenseman Kyle Quincey. Tampa Bay then sent Quincey to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a first-round pick and Piche.
Piche joins the Blades after posting three assists in 22 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. He has five points in 42 career AHL games.
The 6-foot, 202-pound blue-liner registered 33 points (12g, 21a) in 48 appearances with the Toledo Walleye last season. In addition, Piche logged 28 points (5g, 23a) in 46 games with Toledo in the 2009-10 season.
The Everblades travel to Cincinnati to battle the Cyclones at 7:35 p.m. Friday.
The Blades return home Wednesday to face the Kalamazoo Wings.
