Children and adults will gather to kindle a huge Lego menorah

December 17, 2011
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

The lighting of a Lego menorah will highlight the annual Chanukah celebration sponsored by the Chabad Jewish Center at Coralwood Shopping Center located at 2301 Del Prado Blvd., S. Children and adults are invited to participate in this Grand Menorah Lighting. Festivities begin at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Each year Chabad presents an exciting Chanukah program that is fun, educational and hands on.

"We are always looking for new ideas to keep the kids on the edge of their seats. The Lego menorah was perfect," said Rabbi Yossi Labkowski, director of the Chabad Jewish Center of Cape Coral. "The uniqueness of the menorah is what the child remembers. Not only are we trying to give the children a unique and exciting Chanukah experience; we are teaching them that Judaism is fun and exciting." Labkowski hopes that these exciting programs will make an everlasting impression on the children and will give them positive feelings towards Judaism in their adulthood.

The Grand Menorah Lighting will feature music, Chanukah treats, hot latkas and fresh donuts, Chanukah crafts, and a performance by the Hebrew School students. Local elected officials will participate and extend greetings to the Jewish community. The festivities will conclude with the kindling of the huge lego menorah.

Admission is free, and open to the public.

Call Chabad at (239) 541-1777 for more information about these events or any questions regarding the Chanukah holiday.
