Southwest Floridians have the opportunity to help make history Sunday, Nov, 6, as Cre8 Salon & Spa attempts to break the current world record for the most haircuts performed by a team in eight hours.
The Guinness World Record Cre8 Cut-A-Thon Challenge will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Cre8 Salon at 814 S.W. Pine Island Road in Cape Coral.
A representative from Guin-ness World Records will be on site to officiate the event and verify the results. The goal is to reach at least 300 haircuts in eight hours with a team of 10 stylists, which would break the current record by at least 50 haircuts.
In addition to the world record attempt, the event is also a fund-raiser for the Florida Chapter of ALS Association, which helps those afflicted with ALS, or Lou Gerhig's Disease. Residents and visitors are invited to call and schedule an appointment for a haircut during the event for only $8 each, with all proceeds going to the ALS Association.
The first eligible 300 people to reserve their appointments will be automatically entered to win a full day at the spa, valued at over $300.
"We decided to hold this Cut-A-Thon Challenge in honor of one of our clients, who has ALS," said Marcy Sagorac, one of Cre8's owners. "We hope lots of people will come out and support this important charity with us and help us break a world record while we're at it."
The event will also feature live music, food and other entertainment. Appointments are encouraged for the haircuts but walk-ins will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
