June 8, 2014
Associated Press

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Two public television stations in Florida are in talks to merge.

WPBT2, which airs in Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties, and WXEL, which serves Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, are discussing the possibility of creating a new entity called South Florida PBS.

The Palm Beach Post reports (http://bit.ly/SgQYyz ) the stations disclosed their plans after a document outlining the proposal was leaked to the media.

They say the merger would save them money and could help them increase the amount of local programming.
