The first Colombian Festival in Cape Coral will be held Sunday at the German American Social Club. Organizers say the event is for the entire family and will feature live music and a variety of ethnic foods.
Freddy Pizarro, the director of Viajar Magazine, said this is the first Colombian Festival hosted by the magazine in the Lee County community. The magazine decided to host the festival in celebration of Colombian Independence Day.
Columbia declared its independence from Spain July 20, 1810.
Pizarro said the festival is a great way for businesses and the people of the community to unify and celebrate together.
The festival, which will be held from 1-9 p.m at the German American Social Club, will feature live music, food and craft vendors.
Mayor John Sullivan will present a proclamation to Pizarro on Sunday at 2 p.m. commemorating July 17 as the day to celebrate Columbia Independence Day.
