BRADENTON (AP) - Florida state Sen. Mike Bennett says his "fire in the belly" to run for Congress has turned into something else after testing the waters.
Bennett says what he's feeling, instead, is "heartburn over constant fundraising, travel and the other demands of running for federal office.""
The Bradenton Republican on Monday announced he's no longer interested in the job.
Bennett earlier had filed papers declaring his intent to run for the 11th District seat held by Democratic Rep. Kathy Castor of Tampa.
He said his change of heart, though, doesn't mean his life in politics will be over when he's term-limited out of the Florida Senate next year.
Bennett said "You all know me better than that."
