Florida justices restore $1M verdict for car crash

TALLAHASSEE (AP) - The Florida Supreme Court has restored a verdict of more than $1 million for a Duval County car crash.

The justices on Thursday unanimously ruled in favor of Howard Wald.

He suffered neck, back, arm, foot and thigh injuries. The other driver admitted fault so the only issues at trial were the seriousness of Wald's injuries and if they were caused by the crash.

An expert defense witness admitted Wald's thigh injuries were permanent and due to the crash, so the judge issued a directed verdict for Wald on that issue. The jury ruled on the other injuries.

The 1st District Court of Appeal reversed, ruling the thigh injury also should have gone to the jury. The justices disagreed, saying there was no dispute it was permanent.
