Heat hold off Hawks

ATLANTA (AP) - LeBron James scored 34 points and Miami held on for a 98-90 win over the Atlanta Hawks, who nearly rallied from a 20-point deficit while playing their backups against the Big Three in the fourth quarter Monday night.

Miami locked up the No. 2 seed in the East with the win, coupled with Washington's 95-95 overtime win over Boston.

The Hawks went to a makeshift lineup against Miami's starters for the final period and nearly pulled it off.

The game turned ugly with 3 1/2 minutes to go. Atlanta's Zaza Pachulia powered inside for a basket. Zydrunas Ilgauskas took exception to the move and slammed the ball off Pachulia's back as he turned to head back down the court.

Ilgauskas was ejected, and the Hawks hit the technical free throw to tie it at 88-88. Miami outscored the Hawks 10-2 the rest of the way, with James Jones making two huge three-pointers.

n Magic 95, 76ers 85: Dwight Howard returned from suspension to score 19 points, grab 13 rebounds as Orlando beat Philadelphia.

Howard served an NBA suspension Sunday after picking up his 18th technical foul. He wasn't bothered by the refs - or the Sixers - in his return. Howard dominated the boards with no one in the undersized Sixers lineup able to stop his one-handed jams and alley-oops.

Ryan Anderson had 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Jameer Nelson scored 19 points for the Magic, who had a 23-rebound edge at one point in the second quarter and used a 16-2 run in the third to shake off the pesky Sixers.
