TALLAHASSEE (AP) - Destin's city manager says he remembers the co-defendant in the trial of former Florida House Speaker Ray Sansom mentioning that the airplane hangar at the heart of the case was being rebranded as an "educational facility."
Greg Kisela testified on Tuesday. Sansom is charged with arranging to wrongfully get a $6 million budget appropriation to build a hangar at the Destin airport at co-defendant Jay Odom's request. The hangar reportedly was for Odom's business use. Odom is a developer, jet service owner, and major Republican Party donor.
Kisela testified about talking to Odom, who mentioned that a certain kind of budget request for the facility wasn't going through, and instead was being funded with money earmarked for public educational buildings.
More Panhandle officials were scheduled to testify Tuesday afternoon.
