Approximately 40 members of the Florida Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 265th Air Defense Artillery, based in Daytona Beach will be honored in a military ceremony prior to an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan.
The ceremony will be held today, Oct. 16, at 9 a.m., at the Daytona Beach Armed Forces Reserve Center, 405 Basin Street, Daytona Beach.
The soldiers are scheduled to mobilize for additional training before deploying to Afghanistan to provide perimeter security for various forward operating bases using the Rapid Aerostat Initial Deployment (RAID) system.
RAID systems provide essential situational awareness necessary for improved security and daily operations in and around forward operating bases.
The soldiers come primarily from Volusia, Putnam and Orange Counties.
