ICSA U16 girls eye State Cup
By JIM LINETTE, jlinette@breezenewspapers.comThe Island Coast Soccer Alliance U16 girls' team came to this point in the Florida State Cup tournament - the Round of 16 - last season as a U15 entry before being knocked out.
They also are the only ICSA team left in the State Cup series this weekend in Palm Bay, located on the east coast just south of Melbourne.
"We're excited about being back here, we've practiced extremely well and now we want to take care of some unfinished business," said coach Mark Bost. "We'll see what happens."
The U16 girls play their first game at 1 p.m. Saturday against Team Boca and Bost expects a strong test. Only the winner survives to play again Sunday in the single-elimination format and a chance to earn their way to the final four on May 22-23.
"We won our bracket (three games) in Round 1," Bost said. "We played terrific and since we didn't lose a game we got an automatic bid to the Round of 16."
Since the ICSA is morphing back into the Cape Coral Soccer Association after two years, the players and parents have a decision to make at the end of the month.
"We are Island Coast till the State Cup is over, then we'll sit down and talk about keeping the team together," said Bost. "We'd like to keep them together, especially the core group."
That group consists of nine girls who play for Ida Baker, Mariner and Cape High varsity teams plus one each from North High and Bishop Verot.
For those girls it's also a decision that will impact their future aspirations about earning college scholarships.

If they want to continue to be successful they need to go to Cape Coral Soccer Association, they have 9 Baker girls on their team so they are smart, I trust they will choose CCSA. Good Luck Girls.
