Cape Coral police charged a Mariner High School teacher with drug possession after they reportedly found crystal meth in her car after she left school Friday afternoon.

Sheila Hoover, 56, of 13920 Robert Road, Pineland, was arrested and charged with possession of crystal methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school at 3:50 p.m., officials said,

Hoover teaches 11th grade English and Speech.

Acting on an anonymous tip, the Vice, Intelligence and Narcotics Unit Unit conducted surveillance of the faculty parking lot at Mariner High School, and watched as Hoover entered her vehicle and drove off of school property. K-9 Officer Robert Reese executed a traffic stop on Hoover, and an open air "sniff" by Reese's dog, Ben, indicated the presence of illegal drugs, officials said.

A gram of what police identified as crystal methamphetamine was subsequently located in Hoover's vehicle, officials said. North District Patrol Officer Jennifer Silko assisted the K-9 and VIN units in the arrest.

Hoover was booked and transported to Lee County Jail.
