July 13, 2009
Breeze Staff Report, breezesports@breezenewspapers.com

Four turnovers contributed to the Florida Firecats' 52-35 loss to the South Georgia Wildcats Saturday night in Albany, Ga.

The Firecats' playoff hopes are beginning to slip away, too.

The Firecats (6-8) fell into a tie for eighth place with Albany in the af2's American Conference standings. The Firecats have two games left and will try to reach the postseason for the eighth straight year.

Justin Midgett got the start at quarterback for the Firecats, replacing injured starter Chris Wallace. He finished with 269 yards and three touchdowns. Magic Benton led the way receiving with 10 receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns.

The Firecats fumbled the opening kickoff and it was recovered and returned for a score. They had two more turnovers in the first half and the Wildcats continued to cash in, building a 26-15 lead.

The Firecats never got closer than 10 points.
